其中主要原因是球员工资的上涨，去年夏天曼联签下C罗、桑乔和瓦拉内，工资同比增长19.1%，增长了6160万英镑，达到3.842亿英镑。
该数字创下英超历史最高，超过曼城此前工资纪录（3.55亿英镑）
